Tips for Transferring into a UC

As the deadline for UC applications are coming up, you may be feeling a little bit stressed and overwhelmed on how to complete your application and make it stand out from other transfer students. But, there's no need to worry as PCC offers plenty of resources for students to make sure all of their applications are strong. So, whether you're in the process of transferring right now, or you're just preparing yourself for the next admissions cycle, here are a few essential tips that can help you transfer to a UC.

#1: Meet with your academic advisor

Although this may sound a little obvious, consistently talking with an advisor is the best way to make sure you're on track to transferring. Each school will have different requirements depending on your major, and you don't want to make a last-minute mistake that would prevent you from being eligible to transfer. Here is the link to PCC's transfer center so you can get in touch with an advisor!

#2: Take advantage of UC TAG

This tip is more applicable for students who plan on starting their applications next year. By using the UC TAP (Transfer Admission Planner), you will fill out a bunch of information such as all of your classes, your major, what campus you would like to apply to, etc. Once you submit your TAP, you will be able to "tag" one UC school for guaranteed admission! Of course, you still need to apply to the school uisng the actual UC application, but once you get accepted, you will receive an early admissions notification about your dream UC school!

#3: Start your application early

Thankfully, the UC application is pretty straightforward, and you can apply to multiple schools at the same time, so you won't have to deal with writing essays for each specific campus. But, it's still extremely important to get your application done early (especially those personal insight questions or PIQ's) so that you can have time to review and revise your application if necessary. Don't let the idea of guaranteed admission make you put the application off until the last minute. Oh, and always have someone read over everything before you submit it. Once again, PCC's transfer center has amazing people who will help you every step of the way so you can be confident in submitting the best UC application ever :)

I hope these tips were helpful and gave you some clarity in regards to starting and submitting your UC applications. In all, remember to complete all those transfer requirements, and always be yourself when answering your PIQ'S. Good luck with transferring everyone!
